Hiroaki Sugita (Former Japan Chairman for the Boston Consulting Group) Appointed as JTB Tourism Research and Consulting Co.’s Executive Advisor

JTB Tourism Research and Consulting Co. (HQ in Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo, President and CEO Yoshihito Kazama, referred to and abbreviated as “JTBTRC” below) welcomes Hiroaki Sugita, the former Japan Chairman to the Boston Consulting Group, as an executive advisor. His presence will help JTBTRC improve the realization of joint development between the firm and a wide variety of stakeholders that goes beyond the framework of the tourism industry.

Background of Assignment:

To celebrate 100 years since the founding of JTB Corp, the firm aims to contribute its service to enrich the lives of people and of local regions as a new era Think Tank that promotes advancements of exchanges which extend beyond the face value of travel and tourism.
　To consolidate a strong foundation that is sustainable in the long term, recover and grow as a whole industry from the few-years-long COVID-19 pandemic, JTBTRC believes it is of utmost importance to foster joint development with a wider array of stakeholders than before.
　Our firm has solved business management issues for many corporations, so we welcome Hiroaki Sugita as an executive advisor, who has much knowledge across a wide variety of industries. With his presence, we can strengthen our initiatives and contribute to sustainable developments across tourism-related industries going forward.

Hiroaki Sugita

With this assignment at JTBTRC, Hiroaki has been working at the Boston Consulting Group for around 30 years now and has assisted in creating new value, transforming corporations over a long span of time across various industries. From 2006 to 2013, he acted as the Japan president of BCG and as the Japan chairman from 2016 to 2020.

In addition to being the senior advisor at BCG, he also teaches at Waseda Business School, is an outside director for Unicharm, an outside director for Kaizen Platform, and has acted as an advisor for a number of startups such as Farmnote, SkyDrive, Aillis, DataLab, LocationMind, Nadia, among others.

He also has published several books such as: The BCG Way – Strategic Sales (Diamond, Inc.) BCG Meets Recruit’s Ribbonmodel (Nikkei Inc.), and Transformation for Long Term Growth (Nikkei Inc.), among others.
